Rand Wallet terms of service

A self-custody wallet for a test network: we never hold your keys or your funds, nothing in it has real value, and the services it talks to are run on a best-effort basis. These terms say what the app is, what it is not, and the limits of what we promise.

Effective 1 October 2026. These terms apply to every Rand Wallet client: the iOS and Android apps, the Chrome and Firefox extensions, the desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the local web wallet. Questions: legal@randprotocol.org.

These terms are an agreement between you and Randprotocol Development LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA; "we", "us"), the publisher of Rand Wallet (the "app"). By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app. The privacy policy says what the app does with data and is part of these terms. The terms of randprotocol.org, its public RPC and the RAND seed sale are separate, at randprotocol.org/terms.

1. Testnet software

Rand Wallet is experimental software for the Rand Protocol test network. The network may be reset at any time, and a reset makes every note on it unspendable. Test RAND and test tokens have no monetary value, cannot be bought from us, and are not redeemable for anything. The app and the chain have not completed an independent audit. Do not use the app for anything of real value.

2. The app is open source

The app is free software under the GNU General Public License, version 3.0 only. That licence, not these terms, governs copying, modifying and redistributing the source and the binaries, and nothing here restricts what it grants. The source is at github.com/randprotocol/clients.

3. Self-custody: we never hold your keys or your funds

The app generates your spend key on your device and keeps it there, encrypted. We never receive it, cannot recover it, and cannot restore a wallet, reverse a payment or unlock anything for you. If you lose your spend key, or someone else obtains it, the notes it controls are lost or theirs. You are solely responsible for saving your key, for the device and password that protect it, and for anyone you give a viewing key or a transaction key to.

4. What the app does not do

The app does not buy, sell, exchange or swap anything; it has no in-app purchases; it holds no funds on anyone's behalf; it does not run a sale or an offering of any token; it offers no reward or yield for any task. Nothing in the app or on our sites is financial, investment, legal or tax advice, and nothing is an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any asset.

5. Services the app talks to

The app connects to the RPC node you choose (by default https://rpc.randprotocol.org) and, when your device cannot make a payment's proof itself, to the prover you choose — by default the RandProtocol provers under https://prover.randprotocol.org, machines run by the network's validators at no fee, each with its own key; the one that proves a payment receives your viewing key and so can read your wallet's history; the privacy policy and the app's own notice say so before your first send. You may point the app at your own node and your own prover, or at none. The public node and the public prover are run on a best-effort basis for the test network: they may be rate-limited, paused, changed or withdrawn at any time without notice, and we do not guarantee that a transaction you submit through them is relayed or confirmed.

Sites that connect to the extension (randbridge.org, durian.market) are governed by their own terms. The app shows you what a site asks for and does nothing on a site's behalf until you approve it.

6. Transactions are final

A confirmed transaction on the Rand chain cannot be reversed or cancelled, by you or by us. Check the recipient, the asset and the amount before you confirm. A payment to an address you do not control cannot be recovered.

7. Your responsibilities

  • You use only keys and funds that you own or are authorised to use.
  • You comply with the laws that apply to you, including sanctions, export and tax law, and you do not use the app where its use is unlawful.
  • You do not use the app, the public node or the public prover to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to attack, overload or interfere with the network or our services.

8. Risks

Using a wallet on an experimental chain carries risks you accept: defects in the app, the prover, the node or the chain's own software; chain resets and reorganisations; loss of keys or devices; and the acts of third parties — a prover you pair, a site you connect, a node you choose.

9. No warranty

The app and the services around it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. This repeats, and does not narrow, sections 15 and 16 of the GPL.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we and the app's contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or the services it connects to, including loss of funds, keys or data, lost profits, and any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, however caused. Where liability cannot be excluded it is limited to the amount you paid us for the app, which is nothing, or US$100 where the law requires a minimum. Nothing here takes away rights you have under law that cannot be waived.

11. App store terms

If you obtained the app from a store, that store's terms also apply to you. For the Apple App Store, the terms in the appendix below apply as well, as Apple requires.

12. Changes

We may change these terms. The current text is always on this page with its effective date, and the change is visible in the history of TERMS.md in the clients repository. Using the app after a change means you accept the new terms.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from them or from the app will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Before going to court, write to us at legal@randprotocol.org; we will try to resolve it with you first. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement about the app.

Appendix — terms Apple requires for apps on the App Store

These apply only to the iOS and macOS apps obtained from the App Store, and are the minimum terms Apple requires a developer's own licence agreement to carry.

  1. Acknowledgement. These terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
  2. Scope of licence. Your licence to the app from the App Store is limited to a non-transferable licence to use it on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service allow, except that the app may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you via Family Sharing or volume purchasing. The GPL grants you more than this for the source and any copy you build yourself; nothing here reduces that grant.
  3. Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support; Apple has no obligation to furnish any.
  4. Warranty. To the extent any warranty is not disclaimed, if the app fails to conform to it you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (nothing) to you. Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
  5. Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar legislation.
  6. Intellectual property. In the event of a third-party claim that the app infringes that party's intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of the claim.
  7. Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. Developer contact. Randprotocol Development LLC, 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA; legal@randprotocol.org.
  9. Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app.
  10. Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
